About

How we made it in Africa, established in April 2010, is aimed at African business people as well as foreign investors with an interest in the continent.

Africa is attracting increasing interest from foreign investors, and is viewed by many as the last investment frontier. While foreign investors are looking at the continent, African companies are also moving outside of their home markets. Examples are Nigeria’s Dangote Cement that has invested in markets such as Senegal and Zambia; South African telecommunications firm MTN, which has operations in numerous African countries; as well as Kenyan supermarket chain Nakumatt that has expanded into Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

Despite the growing interest in Africa as an investment destination for foreigners, African companies and entrepreneurs have been conducting business successfully on the continent for hundreds of years. These businesses are constantly looking to improve their operations and access new growth opportunities.

How we made it in Africa provides readers with responsible business journalism that informs, educates and inspires.

In 2011, How we made it in Africa was one of the three shortlisted publications, together with The Africa Report and Reuters, in the Media of the Year category of the Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards. In November 2013, How we made it in Africa also won a Bronze Award in the Specialist Publisher category of The Bookmarks awards. The awards recognise and reward excellence in digital media and publishing in South Africa.
