Solar Maghreb is a high level networking conference that has been developed to bring together key solar experts to address the tremendous potential for generating solar power across the region. The event will have a particular focus on the domestic markets of Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania and the opportunity for electricity export to Europe.

The recent announcement of the DESERTEC Industrial Initiative to develop a reliable, sustainable and clean energy supply from the deserts in the Middle East and North Africa highlights the potential of the region
In Algeria, Energy Minister Dr Chakib Khelil has introduced a solar thermal plant feed in tariff and signed a series of bilateral agreements aimed at expanding the country’s solar energy production and export capabilities
In Morocco, Energy Minister Amina Benkhadra has launched a scheme to produce 38% of their electricity needs from solar by 2020
In Libya a newly designated authority, REAOL has been tasked with developing the Libyan sustainable energy strategy
In Tunisia, international companies are carrying out feasibility studies for large scale CSP plants and the Ministry of Industry has set a target of 500,000sqm of panels installed by 2010
