Mining Investment Banker (Mining, Investment Management, Director Level) – Gauteng, South Africa
Introduction
Develop and implement the Resources Strategy. Identify suitable mining opportunities for the company’s Resources from application of prospecting rights, through to production or sale of mining rights.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate all resources ventures presented to the company:
Geological evaluations;
Mining evaluations;
Funding options; and
Projected risk
Motivate each opportunity presented to partners for:
further investigation;
investment; or
discarding
Develop compelling business cases to support the raising of funds for each opportunity
Manage and execute further investigation into feasibility of each venture
Develop, implement and monitor the strategy for further exploration opportunities for the Resources in the sector.
Conduct business development activities to identify and secure suitable opportunities within the mining industry.
Ensure adequate financial and human resources are in place to execute the Resources involvement in each opportunity.
Relationship management
Build and maintain strategic alliances with mining houses, mining technical professional firms, financing institutions, Department of Mineral Resources etc.
Project management
Manage the execution of each stage in the mining value chain.
Ensure project timelines are delivered on at shortest time possible
Process Optimisation
Ensure on-going process re-engineering to ensure optimum service delivery, quicker turn-around times
Risk and Financial Management
On-going reporting to stakeholders
Exercising budgeting and control of expenses
Identify, quantify and report on project’s risk position
Requirements:
Post Graduate BCom Degree (Geology/Mining Engineering/Finance)
Strong understanding of geological science within mining resources
Must be conversant and have a working knowledge in geology, mine planning and mine exploration
Must have a working understanding of geological reports and resource mapping
Must understand and have experience in funding of mining ventures throughout the lifecycle of the exploitation of that venture
Extensive knowledge of Corporate Finance in a Mining Finance Environment (5-10 years)
Working understanding of Mining & Petroleum Development Act
