Description
Our client is one of Australasia’s leading contract mining and construction companies with projects throughout Australia, in New Zealand, Asia, Mongolia and Africa.
They are seeking a suitably qualified Finance Manager, with at least 10 years’ mining experience.
Responsible for various accounting responsibilities including: day to day GL, GL month end balancing, inter-companies reconciliation, reporting, maintenance of cost/GL codes, monitor & report business overheads, manage accounting for projects and other work as directed by Country Manager.
Proactively support service to the Project and Project Manager.
Contribute and develop processes within the International Mining team, and the wider Group, to ensure data is captured, reported and analysed in an accurate and timely manner to facilitate decision making within the organisation.
The specific areas of responsibility of the role:
Mining cost/GL codes and queries including allocation of overheads & journals
Management and reporting of the Mining Project – including analysis of P&L and EBIT
Develop Financial Models to assist in business decisions
Risk and opportunity registers for Business Units
Capital expenditure evaluations
Resolve Accounts Payable/Receivable/Payroll issues
Monitor & Report BU Overheads
Budget & forecast process
Foreign exchange translation of overseas projects results
Provide assistance to other Project & Country Managers’ as required
Completion of month end tasks (processing journals, reconciling intercompany loan accounts, preparation and analysis of monthly overheads, foreign exchange translation of overseas financial results)
Review and update YTD forecast
Assist with updating policies in line with accounting standards
Perform other duties within the scope of the position as directed from time to time
Critical Competencies Required:
Chartered Accountant or CPA qualifications with relevant experience
Advanced financial modelling skills
People management experience
Demonstrated leadership skills and competency
Previous experience working in remote locations
Professional interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of Pronto / AX Dynamics / Strong Microsoft skills
Commercial Competencies:
Knowledge of current clients and the how they operate; understands the profitability of their projects and the drivers
Understanding of good contract management and general understanding of contract law principals. Ensures Group contract management practices are adhered to
Manages resources effectively; puts together budgets; monitors, manages and reports on costs; drives opportunities for cost improvements
Good relationships with current clients. Understand broader Group capabilities. Aware of opportunities and win work
Understands the strategic direction, its impact on the project model and how the organisation delivers value - both short and long term
Identifies project related risks and develops appropriate risk management plans
