Flying high with SA’s fastest growing franchise brand

Traditional Brands – a name that stands for strong family values, sound business practices, mouth-watering food and proven success!

This new umbrella company was established this year to head South Africa’s fastest growing franchise, “Old Fashioned” Fish and Chips and its new chicken brand Chingos.

With the overwhelming success of the “Old Fashioned” Fish and Chips brand which has seen over 350 stores opened in only 5 years, attributed to a fantastic and ever evolving product offering, clinically clean stores and friendly service, it was only evitable that the brand would expand with the addition of a new concept.

The first Chingos store was opened in April 2012 alongside the flagship “Old Fashioned” Fish and Chips store directly opposite Head Office – strategically positioned to be a constant reminder of where the brand started and how it has evolved. Both brands offer products that have tradition at its core from fish and chips wrapped the “Old Fashioned” way, flavoursome with salt and vinegar, to rotisserie chicken which awakens childhood memories of the family around the dining table eagerly awaiting mom’s family dinners.

While meeting the standards of accredited organisations such as SASSI, MSC and RASA and using only the best product, from A-grade potatoes to sustainably caught fish and free range chicken, Traditional Brands is able to guarantee a product that conforms to the core values of the brands and meets (and exceeds) all expectations of the customer.

With an average of an 11 month return on investment “Old Fashioned” Fish and Chips has been able to grow at a phenomenal rate with many current franchisees signing up for multiple stores. Despite the rapid growth the De Sousa Family have not lost their personal touch and passions for the brands – Founder and CEO, Emilia De Sousa, can often be found standing side by side with a franchisee at the opening of a new store while Marketing Director, Nicolas De Sousa, adds his personal touch by testing and improving products in his very own kitchen.

With another 150 “Old Fashioned” Fish and Chips stores on the cards and expansion into Africa in its sights, Traditional Brands shows no signs of slowing down. By keeping its concept fresh and original Traditional Brands has ensured that it will not become just another fish and chicken take away but rather that it will continue to set the standard for all franchises in Africa!
